Here we are, back again. I am rebooting the system. There were ups and downs last week. I achieved some of my goals. I missed out on a few others.

And that's okay. We are back again, trying.

How did your week go?

More ups than downs? More downs than ups?  - I hope however it went you are ready to reboot and start the week fresh :)

I think that is what I wanted to mention in the Monday Mindsets post this week - it's okay to start over.

Acceptance vs expectations are key to this I think. I have high expectations for myself but I am trying to accept that things come up - meetings, unexpected late nights in school, missing trains, needing to pause for air. All things that came up last week which meant something had to give.

But everyday is a new day and every day we can try again.....
'When we think differently about the things that we are used to seeing daily. We can create innovative learning opportunities'
Loving reflecting on #InnovatorsMindset by George Couros and I really think this quote aligns with what I want to bring into my actions this week. I have been allowing my learners create and design time every morning when they come in for the past two weeks. I let them loose on cardboard, toilet rolls, coloured paper etc and said whatever you want to make in your teams to decorate the classroom you can.

The first couple of days it started off slow as they were testing boundaries and finding their feet within their groups but since then the cardboard and the ideas and the imagination has been flying all over the place.

I loved seeing them go from structure to - anything can happen and I want to bring more of that into my own life.

Love these goals from some of the people sharing as part of the #Mindset_Mondays last week. Thank you for sharing how you are attempting to help yourself and others.

Love the questions that Stephanie shared!! 'Is it urgent, can it wait?' I think this really relates to what Helen shares about being kind to our minds. Sometime I can get so caught up on getting something done when it might not be so urgent so this phrase helps to pause and think and celebrate the positives like Cate says.

These goals tie into the idea of creativity and allowing our brains to grow and adapt.

I love seeing a child’s eyes light up - that moment going from ‘this is boring’ to ‘awww I can’t wait to explore this’ It can be tricky to get 17, 28, 35 or even 70 learners all engaged with all their different needs and interests. But that moment when it happens is one of my favourites!!

I want to bring these wonderings into my goals for this week:
  • Allow myself to drift off into imagination, allow my brain to switch into default mode, wonder - Putting music on and looking at the sky is one of my favourite ways to do this.
  • #Justdoit - bringing this one back I was so productive the week I had this on my list so I want to bring it back, stop getting in my own way!
  • Start watching Christmas movies - just because it feels great. Put up my tree yesterday so I think it is time…. :) :)

#Perspectives is one of the pillars of Empathetic Educators and I think, going back to George’s quote it is such a great thing to see things in a different light, wether it be from the perspective of a child or from the perspective of gratitude etc.

Sometimes we don’t have to re invent the wheel just a wee tweak here and there can make all the difference…

What are your goals this week?

Remember;
Be kind to your mind….

And our choices have an impact - what impact are you going to have?

Hope you have a fabulous Monday!!
P.s here is a fabulous session from Gary Vee podcast who is such a great motivator and talks all things #perspectives, #mindset and #accountability. I love listening to his sessions in the morning on my way to school. Helps clear the cobwebs :)
